Divison of Cardiovascular Surgery Dr. Okawa

Surgical operation without a heart-lung machine.

Our division of cardiovascular surgery mainly performs coronary bypass surgery, valvular disease operations, and aortic aneurysms operations. We try our best to reduce the burden of our patients by performing the bypass operations without using a heart-lung machine and trying to make scalpel incisions as small as possible. In addition to these treatments, discharging patients as soon as possible and focusing on postoperative rehabilitation is one of the distinctive characteristics of Toyohashi Heart Center. Patients who have an operation without a heart-lung machine can be discharged from the hospital ten days after being operated upon, and patients with operations using a heart-lung machine, within approximately two weeks. These kinds of results are made possible by a high level of technology which is cultivated through performing nearly 300 operations a year.
